“Absolutely it could come back for season three,” Sera told. “First of all, it’s up to the powers that be. We hope that a lot of people will watch the show and that it gets to continue.
“I will say that we have an idea for season three that is SO exciting that people talk about it in the [writer’s] room everyday. So my fingers are crossed… I’ll just say, I hope we get the chance to keep making the show.”
WARNING! SPOILERS FOR SEASON 1 AHEAD
Season one followed Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley as Joe – a spine-chillingly charming psychopath and book store manager who begins stalking ambitious writer and poet Guinevere Beck after she has the misfortune of stepping into his store. His book shop is hiding a sound-proof glass cage in the basement, which yes, he uses to protect his beloved books and imprison his victims.
Throughout the series, Joe’s ex-girlfriend Candace, whom we presume is dead, appears in his troubled hallucinations.
However, the show’s twisted finale sees Candace return and confront Joe in his over their mysterious past.
Beck met her brutal and inevitable end at the hands of Joe, and Sera hinted that the second season will see Joe contending with what he’s done, rather than moving on to a new girlfriend, and all the terrifying stalking that it entails.
Sera added that Candace’s return – she is dead in Caroline’s novel btw – “opens up options of what will happen next” in season two, and potentially in a third season too.
“I can tell you we will see more of Candace and that she shakes Joe to the core with what she brings to the story,” Sera disclosed. “And so it propels that character [Joe] a lot in what he decides to do next.”
Sera also added that season two is “a month away from filming” and then “we’re full steam ahead”.
