Manchester United sacked Jose Mourinho on Tuesday and had Solskjaer installed as manager within 24 hours.

The Red Devils are a staggering 22 points behind league leaders Liverpool and Mourinho was axed after the 3-1 defeat at Anfield on Sunday.

Solskjaer’s first task has been to prepare his team for the 5:30pm kick off at his former club Cardiff today.

Red Devils supporters became used to seeing Mourinho patrolling the touchline – especially when his side was struggling.

The manager had his seat on the raised United bench at Old Trafford but would often be marching along the whitewash of the pitch.

It was a style not too dissimilar to Sir Alex Ferguson, who came out from the dugout when most required.

And Solskjaer is built in that same mould.

Solskjaer rarely sits in the stands and will not be spotted hiding away at Cardiff with a microphone linking him up with the United bench.

The Norwegian has enjoyed a second stint at Molde since his dismissal as Cardiff manager and is regularly seen on the touchline.

United fans will be waiting with excitement to see how he changes team tactics from the Mourinho era.

But what will most likely remain is a passionate presence marching the line.

Solskjaer played under Sir Alex Ferguson at United and had a stint as reserve team manager when his playing days ended in 2007.

But he insists he is very different from Ferguson.

“We are all different to how we manage people and the manager [Ferguson] was different with every individual,” he said.

“But I have a hairdryer and when my hair needs lifting I use it on myself but I am also not afraid of if you like laying down the law,” he said.
