(AllHipHop News) Dreamville Records has yet to achieve the same level of commercial success as Top Dawg Entertainment. However, J. Cole’s label did produce well-received projects such as Cozz’s Effected, Bas’ Milky Way, and J.I.D’s DiCaprio 2.
According to J.I.D, Dreamville is ready to step up to the plate against the West Coast-based record company. The Atlanta emcee spoke with Complex News about the potential friendly rivalry.
“We’re just really competing with TDE,” said the Spillage Village collective member. “This is a whole other thing. We’re competing with TDE. That’s what needs to be known. Dreamville, we gotta step this sh*t the f*ck up. Because them n*ggas is fire.”
J.I.D is part of a roster that includes Cole, Bas, Cozz, EarthGang, Omen, Lute, and Ari Lennox. Top Dawg is home to Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, SZA, Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, SiR, Lance Skiiiwalker, and Reason.
Dreamville boss J. Cole and TDE superstar Kendrick Lamar have been working together for years. For example, they joined forces on tracks like “HiiiPoWeR,” “Forbidden Fruit,” and “They Ready.” A rumored joint album repeatedly makes its way back into the headlines.
Both platinum-selling artists have also leaned into the competitive nature of Hip Hop. That was famously on display with Lamar’s “Control” verse and Cole’s response on Justin Timberlake’s “TKO (Remix).”
